An online newspaper called ‘The Australian’ recently conducted an interview with the world champion, questioning him on things like his past dating experiences, his personal life, and his quest for 10 world titles.

If the writer of the story, Mike Safe, would have done some basic research, he would have found the answers to a lot of the questions asked by Kelly, such as whether Quiksilver will pay him $10 million for 10 world titles, or whether he dated Kristen Dunst, right on the internet. You see, I interviewed Kelly twice the past two years, and asked him practically every question this Mike Safe guy asked last week.

If there’s anything I’ve learned throughout the years in the surf industry, it’s that none of the writers do any research, and most of them simply don’t know much about writing or journalism. Hate to bag on my fellow surf writers, but it’s true. To stop from sounding like a complete hater however, this story does have a couple of good tidbits.

One, Kelly addresses next season, and his quest for a 10th world title. And two, the story reveals the identity of Kelly’s 20 year-old girlfriend that he’s been dating for over a year. It’s none other than Roxy surfer Kalani Miller.
